Individual Therapy

For our individual therapy sessions, my approach and way of working is at its core humanistic and existential. My practice is trauma & dissociation-informed; queer and trans affirmative; and through the lens of intersectionality and critical awareness.

I believe that human beings have the innate capacity to heal, grow, and lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. However, unhealthy relationships, our wider environment and social context, or traumatic experiences can affect our choices and impede our natural tendency towards health and our desirable ways of living.

I approach our work together as an encounter; I will facilitate your exploration of your difficulties and causes of distress, so that you can understand what you need in order to recover and move towards developing the kind of life and relationships you want. I can provide you with resources to support you along the way, when you feel it’s necessary. I do not seek to impose anything on you, nor can I give you advice and ready-made solutions. However, we will work together to figure out what can be the best way forward for you.

I intend to co-create with you a confidential and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship, in which you feel accepted and understood. In this safe space, we can discuss and make sense of your feelings, beliefs, and life experiences that might have been hard to talk about before. During therapy, you can have the opportunity to find answers to fundamental questions: Do you know who you are? Do you understand what’s happened to you? What do you want to change?

The therapeutic relationship can be the ground on which deeper self-awareness and self-acceptance grows; a designated space for you to experience healthy boundaries, a sense of belonging, and empathy that might be lacking from everyday life or the larger sociopolitical context. In this way, it becomes easier to understand your needs and find your own solutions.
